Another of Novicom's professional seminars took place on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at the GreenPoint Conference Center in Prague. The seminar was titled "Network visibility and integrated network management - a necessary condition for building security surveillance" and this time included the introduction of new features in two of Novicom's key products.

After the seminar, the sales director, Jindřich Šavel, first presented the new features in the BVS product – Business Visibility Suite.

In response to the needs of the current IT sector, Novicom has expanded its BVS Business Edition, which now integrates the areas of network asset management, business processes and, newly, critical vulnerabilities, using added security functionality.

To the current view of connecting IT assets and business services, the BVS Business Edition also brings a new dimension of IT security, where information about identified vulnerabilities will be added to individual detected IT assets in the network.

Main benefits of the new version of BVS Business Edition:

  • Identification of security risks in the context of key business assets
  • Integration with Tenable Nessus tool outputs
  • Display of details about the detected vulnerability directly at the IP address
  • Automatically updated vulnerability records for IP addresses and ports
  • Records of vulnerability history
  • Possibility of exporting business services including the overall risk to XLS (thanks to the existence of links to supporting service devices)
  • Possibility of recording the impact (criticality) of a business service within the organization

Thanks to the new version of Novicom BVS Business Edition, business users, managers, operators and security specialists can find out key information from one place for prioritizing activities, managing continuity and minimizing the risks of negative impacts on the organization due to security weaknesses.

After the break, Jindřich Šavel presented the news in the AddNet product, which, as part of continuous improvement and development, has added many useful features to simplify the administration and control of network access.

With AddNet, Novicom continues towards security, deepening the NAC function with advanced services and the ability to apply security policies, create dynamic access control lists (DACL), and manage them. Now, even when connected anywhere in a large network, it is possible to apply policies intended for one specific group, which are dynamic and flexible. This means that standardization is taking place, which is of secondary benefit to firewall administrators, who only need to set global policies and do not have to create additional rules according to locations.

The management of switches, firewalls, etc. has also been simplified, as Novicom will globally apply security policies when controlling access to the network. Everything has been done to create a heterogeneous environment. Most of Novicom's competitors in NAC only make these advanced security policies for their hardware.

Main news in AddNet in 4 points:
  1. Automatic quarantine based on health check on clients
  2. Security policies thanks to DACL at the level of access switches
  3. Possibility to set login time
  4. Real-time information from NAC operation
After professional lectures, case studies and a joint toast to improved products, 60 seminar participants gathered for a barbecue and beer tasting, led by a brewing specialist and taster of professional brewery competitions, Tomáš Maier from the Czech University of Life Sciences.

The technological partner of the seminar was Flowmon Networks - a manufacturer of solutions in the field of advanced network and application monitoring, which also contributed to the program with its lecture.

The seminar was supported by DCD Publishing - a publisher of independent titles focused on the IT community. DCD Publishing has digital channels, organizes professional seminars and operates several web portals.
