Video interview and article from a roundtable discussion on the topic of CYBER SECURITY
24/02/2023
An expert roundtable discussion on the topic of cybersecurity took place on February 16, 2023 in the Aktuálně TV studio in the Economia, a.s. media house in Prague, Czech Republic. Among the discussants was Jindřich Šavel, CEO of Novicom.

Cyber security experts pointed out in the debate that cyberattacks are commonplace, with companies paying millions in ransoms. The attacks we hear about in the media are just the tip of the iceberg.
The actual number of successful cyberattacks is at least an order of magnitude, perhaps even several orders of magnitude, higher than would be possible to judge from publicly available information.
The following gathered at the table:
- Jindřich Šavel, CEO, Novicom, s.r.o.
- Petr Kocmich, Global Cybersecurity Delivery Manager, Soitron
- Josef Grill, founder, WEDOS Internet
- Jaroslav Cihelka, executive director, ComSource
The debate was moderated by Marek Miler - editor of Hospodářské noviny.
In the debate, Jindřich Šavel described the hacker technique as "shotgun shooting" at insufficiently secured corporate networks and systems. "The ransom demand for encrypted data is often the last stage of an attack. Attackers can be in their victim's network for several years and only ask for money when they leave," adds Šavel.
The vulnerability of Czech companies is related to underestimating business continuity management, or the organization's ability to continue delivering products and services even after a disruptive incident. According to Jindřich Šavel, companies often do not know what to do in the event of an attack and how to restore their operations as quickly as possible. "If they had such plans, the restoration would take them two days, but they would not be forced to pay a ransom."
